February 22, 2010 - Posted by Alice SchneblyTechnicolor BootiesProject Specs After seeing Grace's darling baby knits for our new niece Serena, I just couldn't wait to knit up some cute little things myself--even though it meant straying from my original Olympic knitting plans. I thought I would just take a break for a few hours and knit up one pair of Saartje's Booties, well one pair quickly turned into three. Even then I had to force myself to stop knitting this pattern! It's so addictive and each pair seems to turn out cuter than the one before. I can see myself using this pattern every time a new baby comes around. Last time I made these booties I was so worried they were going to be too small for a newborn. I definitely don't have to worry about that with little Serena, her feet are insanely tiny! Right now the booties fit with socks underneath and can also be worn without, though they're a little loose and can be kicked off if she's being really squirmy. I think she'll be able to wear these for quite awhile and when they're finally too small for her they'll look darling on display somewhere in her nursery. I knew my Easter egg dyed yarn would be the perfect choice for these booties because my older sister (Serena's mom) really loves bright colors. In fact, she loved my chevron scarf made from my handpainted yarn so much I ended up giving it to her. I'm happy to say she liked these booties just as much! I'm actually thinking of trying some more dyeing soon, especially since Easter is coming up and the dye kits will be in stores soon. Someday I really hope to make a matching Baby Surprise Jacket to go with these booties. Maybe I can fit it in as a last minute Ravelympic project if I'm lucky! |
