June 10, 2007 - Posted by Alice SchneblyYour favorites and ours!It has been very interesting finding out all the varieties of different yarns all of you have been using! It seems that sock yarns really do come out on top with many of you citing Socks that Rock, Cherry Tree Hill, and Koigu as their faves, as well as other handpainted sock yarns like Sundara and Yarntini.. Hearing all that is just about enough to get me to start knitting socks… almost ;) Grace says she agrees with those of you who stuck to the basics, like Patons Classic Merino and Cascade 220 Wools. It seems like there are an endless amount of projects out there for these yarns, so you can never have enough of worsted weight wool! I’d have to say too, that these yarns are some of my favorites too! This really is a difficult question to answer! I think I agree with Jenn, who replied, “Asking a knitter their favorite yarn is like asking a reader their favorite book- we like different ones for different reasons. Some have a favorite yarn because of a special project, or the way the colors knit up or the way the yarn feels in our hand.” It’s so true that we as knitters are very subjective when it comes to the yarns we like. I’ve sat down for quite a long time thinking about what would be my favorite yarn and I still have yet to come to a conclusive answer. I kind of flit from yarn to yarn like I do from project to project, but I suppose there are always those yarns I come back to. I like using Caron Simply Soft for toys and baby items. It is super affordable and it’s not the end of the world if the item you make gets roughed up a bit. I think I have used Cascade 220 the most out of any yarn, especially because I like felting so much, and the Superwash version is one of my favorite washable wools. I also have a few yarns that I’ve only used once, but I really liked knitting with them, like Karabella Aurora 8 and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran—also chosen by quite a few of you out there. Then there are the yarns in my stash that have to be my favorites to touch and look at (like Tilli Tomas Rock Star, or Karabella Boise) but I’ve yet to find the perfect project to knit with them. There’s still a bit of time to add in your two cents too, so if you haven’t already entered the contest, make sure you do before Noon Eastern time. Grace will be doing the drawing then and let you know who wins! |
