April 27, 2007 - Posted by Alice SchneblyWhat next?A couple of days ago issue four of Blueprint magazine arrived in my mailbox, and today I finally got a chance to sit down and flip through it. One of the highlights is the pictorial beginning on page 90 that showcases the home of Joelle Hoverson—author of Last Minute Knitted Gifts, from which I am working on the Chevron Scarf. Her apartment is gorgeous and inspiring and I love the huge vases of tulips all over. There are also some photos of her shops, Purl and Purl Patchwork, that she runs with her sister in NYC. This is overall a great magazine, I wish it was published more often, right now it’s only quarterly. The last (I hope) adult cadet hat has been washed and is blocking right now. That means we are close to being done with the pattern! It also means I get to concentrate on other projects—and trust me my list is long! I’m not sure what I want to work on next (along with my chevron scarf and some baby items). A scarf? A bag? Something for Camdyn? I recently bought a Louet bag kit from the Knitting Garden that could be a contender. Plus I have so many yarns that I don’t even have projects for that I want to work with. I used to ‘work’ at a LYS here in Vegas, and most of the time when I was paid, it was with yarn. So even though I have been knitting a relatively short time, my stash is huge. I made a spreadsheet some time ago, that calculated the total number of yards of yarn I have—41,558. The spreadsheet didn’t even include all my Cascade 220 and Patons, and other felting wools, yarns I didn’t want to count (like novelty yarns and acrylics), and yarns that were already specified for projects (those are stored separately in their own ziplocks). So maybe I can ask you guys for help? Here are a couple of yarns that I’m drawn to at the moment, so if you have any suggestions for children’s items, scarves, hats, or any other great patterns that I could use these yarns for—free or otherwise—please shout them out in the comments! On the left, is 7 skeins of Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in a pale blue color, 572 yards total. It knits up at 3st/inch on size 11 needles. It's so soft I just want to find something great to make with this yarn! On the right is 3 skeins of Reynolds Rapture, a 50% silk/50% wool blend. I love this gorgeous blue color! It's a chunky weight, that knits up at about 3.5 st/inch, and I have about 216 yards total. Thanks in advance for your help! |
