November 11, 2008 - Posted by Grace SchneblyKenny's KoolhaasProject Specs Back during the Ravelympics I made a Koolhaas for my brother in law, Kenny, but the colors ended up being too feminine. Well here is my second attempt at Kenny's Koolhaas, and I think this one will work out perfectly! The Marine colorway is a really gorgeous deep blue that I know Kenny will like. It is really similar to the color of the Forbes Forest scarf I made for him last year which he wore a lot. Plus now he and Camdyn can wear matching hats! :) I started working on this hat during my flight to Las Vegas last month and it turned out to be a really nice travel knit. The pattern is simple enough that after the first repeat you really don't have to check it anymore until you get to the decreases at the top of the hat. I guess it doesn't hurt that I had already knit the pattern a few times before. Once in Vegas I put it in a ziplock bag and took it just about everywhere with me, knitting a few rows here and there. At first I was concerned that the dark yarn would make it harder to work the cables but it didn't really at all. I know it may seem like I'm obsessed with this pattern, and well frankly, I kind of am! This Malabrigo colorway has less variation in it than most I've worked with and at first I was a bit disappointed. I think that the usual color variation enhances this pattern and makes the cables pop a little more. However after finishing I'm really pleased with how it turned out and I know Kenny will like it. I'll be knitting a matching Malabrigo Architect Scarf using my Marine leftovers, Cypress, Polar Morn, and Black. Alice said that Kenny wants to be a "scarf guy" so I think I'm going to make it a tradition to knit him a new scarf every year. |
