November 26, 2007 - Posted by Alice SchneblyClassy Herringbone Mittens![]() Project Specs
The color combo I used for these mittens is much more muted than last time around, but I love it just as much. They’re nice and neutral and I think they’ll go with lots of things. This pair of mittens is actually being sent out as a gift, so I hope the recipient gets lots of use out of them and loves them as much as I do! I know for sure I’ll have to knit this pattern AT LEAST one more time so I can have a pair in more muted colors for myself. I opted to leave off the pompoms this time to go with the more classic look—plus I think it fits the recipient a bit more. I have gotten a couple of questions about how I made the pompoms removable on the last pair of Herringbone mittens so I wanted to take some pictures and try to explain it a bit better. First, after crocheting a chain and attaching the pompom leave a small loop After completing these mittens I’m feeling a lot more comfortable with stranded knitting done on DPNs. I think I might be ready now to take on the Anemoi Mitten pattern. I’ve always loved those mittens, and had the yarn and the pattern for quite a long time. The small needles and the colorwork chart have always intimidated me a bit, but I feel it’s about time I face my fears when it comes to these mittens. Hopefully before the end of the year I can start on some lovely Anemois! ![]() |

Thanks again for the info on the removable poms! Both your sets of mittens look fabulous, and I'm itching to start mine! I've got to get *something* (anything!) off the needles first, though, to avoid the ever-popular 23-things-on-the-needles-at-once syndrome.
I'm also hoping to do the Anemoi pattern, and these should be a great warm-up!
You are on a mitten kick! They are all beautiful! You'll have mittens for every day of the week. I can't wait to see what design is next.
How do you do it!?!? I am catching up on my blog reading and saw the snowflake mittens you made, only to see you started another pair the next day and finished the following day. I am impressed. I enjoy your blog and your projects but I wonder, instead of fingers do you have knitting needles on your hands :)
Those are even prettier than the red ones, and the red ones are just lovely.
They are so beautiful. Amazing how the color change can really affect the whole look of the mittens. Both are so nice!
Your herringbone mitts are gorgeous!
Lovely as ever! I'm sure the recipient will love them. They're sure to be a really useful gift as they'll go with so many different colours.
I'm diggin' the muted color combo. Thanks for the pom info. I'm considering making a pair for myself, and while the pom is fun, I probably wouldn't want it on there all the time.
These are simply DIVINE!!!
I read your blog with pleasure. I don't comment all the time, but today I have to say, wow! How fast you are with those stranded mittens! It's incredible. Both pairs are beautiful, and all your knits looks so great, and well photographed.
Lawdy, you're really cranking these out, aren't you?! Beautiful!
BTW, I tagged you for 8 random facts. ;-)
I knit the Anemoi pattern last Christmastime. Oh yeah - you'll have no trouble whatsoever. It's easier than you think and there's a lot of nice design features too.
You know, I just adore these!!!
So beautiful, I'm inspired to make some now!
Beautiful again!!
Very classy indeed! Your colorwork is sooo nice and even.
