August 31, 2008 - Posted by Alice SchneblyBlue Velvet![]() Project Specs This is one FO where I loved the process just as much as the final product. This yarn is amazing! While knitting it’s soft and silky (though a bit slick) and after felting it’s buttery and supple. I was expecting the scarf to feel like velvet, but it turned out even better than I’d hoped.
Even though Grace did it before me without any problems, the felting portion of this project really freaked me out. I’ve felted lots of things before, but certainly nothing this luxurious. I followed the pattern instructions and washed the scarf on hot with some old towels. After this stage of the process really the scarf looks terrible—kind of like a drowned muppet. My advice is not even to try to make any sense of it at the moment, quickly throw it in the dryer without looking at it too much! I dried my scarf on medium for about thirty minutes then switched to low for the final bit. I pulled it out before it was totally dry and hung it up over night. This morning when I woke up I gave it a quick fluff in a no-heat dryer. The overall transformation is amazing!
I feel a little guilty keeping this scarf for myself, but because of the size I think it will be a nice scarf for Las Vegas winters. Plus, I’ve been wearing it around all day and don’t want to take it off! ![]() |

I had to post and say how lovely that scarf turned out. I've made it twice and love knitting with the Touch Me. That teal just glows.
i love this color.
So pretty! I knit one a while back, and it is so nice to wear when it's cold. The color you chose is awesome!
gorgeous color!!! love it
The scarf looks simply lovely, I can't blame you for keeping it, we all deserve something evey now and then, that although pehaps not practical for our particular circumstances, brings us comfort. Now the song Blue Velvet keeps drifting thru my mind - oh my!
So gorgeous! What a rich combination of color and texture. I haven't seen that yarn in person yet -- it looks really neat. BTW, I say no guilt about keeping it. We knitters deserve to make lovely things for ourselves to enjoy.
I saw this scarf in person once, and fell in love with how it looked and felt. But eeek! The price! Sigh. Well, maybe some day. Yours came out great, and I love the color.
OMG! LOVE this yarn! And the color is fantastic! This was a great surprise this morning while enjoying coffee at the laptop. We've got some similar yarn to this at the shop that I've been hoping would turn out like the Touch Me. But it's substantially (!) less... worth a shot though! Great job girl!
Have you looked through people's stashes on Ravelry for a cheaper deal? Even if you can't get all one color, scarves cast on for the length and then knit in stripes are fun, and you'll already know it's long enough.
Oh man, and I had just convinced myself I didn't need/want to knit this one! AHHH! It's gorgeous!!! You've captured the texture very well, it looks so buttery smooth & soft!
It's a beautiful scarf in a beautiful color! Enjoy it!
Beautiful. I keep admiring this scarf. Its so pretty.
I just want to squish it. Beautiful!
Wow, that is lovely! It is a gorgeous colour too, for some reason it really suits the texture of the scarf. :)
