This was the first time I’ve worked with this yarn, or any of the Dream in Color yarns. The color variation throughout is stunning. At first I thought knitting up this jacket in just one color would be boring, but while I was knitting it I started to love how all the different browns were highlighted on the garter ridges. To me it almost looks like the bark of a tree. I really love it! Not being a sock knitter, this was probably not a yarn I would have picked up on my own, but I was lucky enough to win a contest on Kim’s blog by guessing closest to the number of skeins of sock yarn she acquired last month. She sent me this lovely skein of DIC along with two other gorgeous yarns, Araucania Ranco and Hill Country Yarns Sweet Feet. As you know even though I haven’t succumbed to sock knitting yet, I’ve always been taken by how gorgeous sock yarns are and I am always looking for great ways to use them. I have to say the BSJ has got to be one of the best ways to show them off!
As you can tell I’ve got my mojo back, and I’ve definitely got EZ on the mind. I think I could cast on for another BSJ at this very moment and I’d still be totally enthused with the pattern. I’ve moved a couple other EZ patterns up to the front of my queue—the February Baby Sweater and Norwegian Mittens—and hope to get to those in the near future. If you don’t have an EZ book yet, definitely get yourself one. At first you might be a bit intimidated by her writing style, but I’m sure you’ll grow to love it. I can wholeheartedly recommend The Opinionated Knitter. I love being able to read Elizabeth’s original newsletters next to her daughter, Meg Swansen’s, additional writings. The new issue of Interweave Knits also has a great article about the history of Schoolhouse Press that you also might find interesting. The article is followed by the Maltese Hat pattern (also in Knitter’s Almanac as well as Knitting Daily, for a limited time*) if you want to try out one of Elizabeth’s patterns and can’t get your hands on a book right away. *The Knitting Daily version is EZ’s pattern written out in Interweave Knits’ format. Though it overall might be easier to understand, I think it loses a bit of its original charm. ![]() |

Very nice!
LOVE the BSJ Alice. It's on my list of things to make for my friend's daughter who is expecting her first baby in the fall. Now a client's wife is expecting too. I think a BSJ and the February sweater are both in order. :) Probably both in Smooshy....
Adorable! I love the colors.
It's beautiful.
It's perfect! Love the color ;)
I've got a skein of Smooshy in my stash that now may be destined for a BSJ instead of socks. What a great idea. It is absolutely adorable.
Oh sweet, now I know what I'm going to do with that skien of Woolmeise I won. Yours is adorable and I love that colorway. I've been liking brown more and more lately.
Cute BSJ! They are like potato chips--I couldn't stop at just one. I had to make lots.
Love the colour. It's so beautiful. You make me want to start one today. Thanks for the inspiration.
Great BSJ!!
You know when I get ready I will be all over EZ's DVD! ;op
I love the shot of your toys. This is such an adorable pattern, but I don't have any little ones to knit for right now. But your toy shot has given me an idea....teddy bear version????
Very cute! I just finished one of these myself, though I have to wait for it to dry from the blocking so I can sew on the buttons.
So cute! Very classy, too. The BSJ is on my to-knit list. I just finished my 1st February baby sweater. If you knit one, make sure to think about buttonholes from the beginning! EZ doesn't mention them until halfway through, when you already should have made a couple.
What a great use of sock yarn! It is adorable.
Very pretty choice :)
Great job! I looooove this yarn. At least one of us finished it in 3 days!! And I totally agree with knitting some Saartjes to go along with it, and maybe a Norwegian cap? Too cute! Why don't you get started on that Miss Mojo? ;-)
It's lovely!
Absolutely Beautiful ! I have always loved BSJs this one is adorable too.
I love the BSJ! You make me want to make another one. It is so fun to watch it go from wierd rectangle to jacket. EZ is really fun to knit and I understand what you mean when you say some of the "charm" is lost in the IK pattern.
